Deanna had her leg amputated this morning due to swelling and muscular damage that was in response to a loss of oxygen. They hope that her condition will continue to improve, but she’s still not out of a coma.
Thank you to everyone who commented and contacted me. Please continue to pray.
(ps: 15 days of camp left.)

Please pray/send good thoughts for my friend Deanna. She’s in critical condition and in a coma in the ICU after a near-drowning at NCSU’s pool a few days ago.
This girl is sweet and kind and amazing and wonderful and I don’t want to lose her. Please pray for her.

Okay, so life at camp is “In-Tents” (intense) as we like to say here. They say that a day at camp is like a week in the real world and it’s so true. Within the first two weeks, I had made best friends that it feels like I’ve known forever and experienced enough highs and lows to qualify me for roller coaster status.
Now, I’ve been here for six weeks and it feels like a lot longer, yet, when I look back, I wonder where on earth the time has gone. So far this summer, I have:
- Worked in the ceramics studio for the first time, making a slightly misshapen pot and star pendants for everyone I live with.
- Gone swimming in the lake and jumped off the aqua jump.
- Referred games of kickball, volleyball, and Newcombe.
- Officiated races at the pool.
- Learned all the words to the Camp’s alma mater. (Usually sung at an infuriatingly slow pace by the oldest girls in camp.)
- Made approximately 300 chocolate chip cookies.
- Screamed music at the top of my lungs with three friends while we drove through the dark, Pennsylvania mountain roads to get to New York State at 12am.
- Fallen in love with some amazing little girls.
- Written actual letters by hand and mailed them, the old fashioned way.
- Laughed so hard I’ve cried.
- Cried so hard I’ve laughed.
- Spent the night at my friend’s lake house, waking up to a gorgeous morning view out over the sparkling lake water.
- Watched 9 movies. Some in the theater (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Live Free or Die Hard, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), some here at camp in the staff lounge (Step Up, Stick it), and some at the lake house (John Tucker Must Die, Drumline, A Cinderella Story, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants).
- Not read any books. What? I know. There’s no time!
- Discovered a love of plain yogurt seasoned with brown sugar and fresh fruit.
- Gone kayacking and gotten sunburned so badly that someone’s nicknamed me “Prime Rib.”
In other words, it’s been a crazy ride so far. And there’s still 22 days left. Who knows what the future holds?
Until next time,
Sassy
