Mr. C: No problem. Have a good day. What he really wants to say is, oh, yes, of course you’re right. Which one of us has been teaching for thirty years? shut up.
Me: Turn to huff away, heading for the door a mere two feet away… And walk straight into the glass window (floor to ceiling) beside his office door.
Mr. C: Dear… are you okay?
Me: Yep. Gonna go now.
Mr. C: Have… have a good day.

AlI got a new digital camera, today! (Thank you, wise use of loan refund check. What? You say a new digital camera isn’t a wise use of my school loan money? Ahhh. Bite me!)

Okay. So, I have, for some silly reason, signed up for both National Novel Writing Month and National Blog Posting Month. This means that I have pledged to both write a 50,000 word novel and post on my blog every day. Go me! Insanity becomes me, right?
So, does anyone have any ideas for posts? I’m sure I’ll need them.
In the meantime, I leave you with a quote (as I am so fond of quotations.)

For this month? My vision includes the following:
- Blogging once a day
- Writing a 50,000 word novel
- Doing an in-depth bible study on the character of God.
- Spending less time at the computer and more time with friends, building relationships.
- Seeking God with all my heart.
Hm. Well, I’m writing a Christian novel. But I’ll be on the computer a lot. So we’ll see, I guess. There’s a lot on my mind, and I’ve got the Chronicles of Narnia on the brain.

I know what he means.
I got my pretty sewing machine and I sat down with it, and opened it all up and plugged it in and decided to try to sew something! First came the nauseatingly long process of learning how to thread and install the bottom bobbin, and thread the top needle. Getting those connected and in the proper place TOOK FOREVER.
But finally! I had it! I was ready to go! Ambitiously, I decided I was going to create a fabric sewing machine cover in a pretty, cheap fabric I bought in the clearance section for a dollar a yard. I measured, figured out what panels I needed, cut, pinned the first part, and I was ready to go.
You see where this is going, don’t you?
An hour later, I had managed to sew two inches of tiny, neat, beautiful stitches. I learned the following:
- A seam ripper is key.
- You need strong thread. The little spools of thread that came in your cheap mending kit? Not going to cut it.
- Reading directions sixteen times is helpful. Stopping at fifteen? Fruitless. You should have read it at least one more time.
- Sticking your fingers with pins hurts.
So, I have a sewing lesson scheduled for Saturday. Sweet, sweet knowledge. I’m waiting for you. In the meantime? I’m still excited. And thrilled. And awe struck. I own my very own beautiful sewing machine. I will conquer you, Brother! I WILL!
In other news, I’m going to name my beloved machine. Right now, I’m leaning towards Bessie. Thoughts?

Holy smokes, is anyone else as excited as I am about The War? This documentary by Ken Burns (!) is going to be phenomenal. I’ve seen the commercials, and oh, mercy, am I a sucker for the Ken Burns style. I absolutely cannot wait.
It seems to me that the hype about “The Greatest Generation” has passed, or at least significantly died down. That makes me unbelievably sad. While the hype was obnoxious, the story of a generation that saved the world is valuable in teaching us all a lesson in character in preserverence. I am not, forone instant, pretending this was a utopia. But it was a time in which individuals understood their responsibilities to the greater good. I’ll be interested to see if his documentary covers the Internment Camps at all. It’s all too tempting to gloss over the devastating aspects of history when it’s more convenient to look at the heroic parts.
These guys are dying. One day, in our lifetime, there will be a headline: “Last World War II Soldier dies.” Imagine the sadness that will be. Thank goodness for someone like Ken Burns, and for lesser knowns who labor to organize memories, to take oral histories, to seek to preserve and understand the very ETHOS that pervaded a nation and brought victory.
Yeah. That’s why I’m a history major. Because I go all geeky about this sort of thing.

There are many ways in which I am a geek and further ways in which I exhibit said geek behavior. But even I am beginning to admit that this current venture may just take the cake.
I have a homeschool notebook. Now, this is in addition to my new blog. Yep. I have a blog on homeschooling. But I don’t have kids! (Yet.) There’s so much information on the internets. I wanted a place to mull it over. Ponder. Discuss.
But this notebook takes things to a new level. It is a white binder, neatly labeled with a decorative sheet in the display pocket. “Homeschooling Ideas.” Fantastic. Inside, there are five tabs.
- General articles.
- Curriculums.
- Inspiration.
- Projects.
- Trips.
The general articles are things like some of the legal aspects to homeschooling, or ideas for resources, such as various websites. Curriculums are articles about the various types of homeschooling. Inspirations are articles and blog entries that reinforce WHY I want to homeschool. Projects and trips are ideas for all sorts of things I want to do when I start homeschooling.
All neatly organized and often updated for the day that I will have babies that have heads that need filling.

Last night, post-shower, I grabbed my Cucumber D0ve lotion, poured a generous amount into my hands, and began to rub it into my legs.
Something about the consistency was off.
I frowned.
Looked at the bottle.
Shower Gel.

Crap.
I live in a dorm with communal bathrooms. If I’m going to wash this off in the shower, I have to get redressed, walk down to the bathroom, get undressed, get into the shower, and wash it off.
So, I grab a bottle of water and my towel and wash it off that way. I have no shame in my laziness. It was 3am and I was exhausted.
Stupid shower wash.

In other news, the blind date was ridiculous. It included the words, “Yeah. I read your blog.” Good God. The awkwardness and discomfort born of that statement are still lingering. It ended well enough, on friendly enough terms, but certainly isn’t an experience I’m looking to repeat.
And in other news still, I have a job for the summer! A most excellent camp in Pennsylvania, where I’ll be most excellently teaching little girls how to bake cookies and make smoothies. Fantastic! It pays well, it gives me something to do, and I have a feeling it’ll be quite the adventure.

ing right along… On a completely different note, my second book of the day. Something you may not know about me: I’m considering going to Divinity school after I graduate from my undergraduate years. In Divinity School, particularly the one I would like to attend, (Well, maybe here, here, or here) you dabble in a little thing we like to call Hebrew & Greek. Sounds terrifying doesn’t it?
So, for shiggles, I bought this book. Learn New Testament Greek. How’s that exploit going? Not that great. But, having bought the book, I feel proactive and dedicated. Besides, when someone sees it on my shelf, or beside my bed, they think I’m really smart. This semester, I’m taking “Introduction to Biblical Literature”, so I’ll get to study all sorts of different translations, plus write exegesis papers. I’m actually really excited, because… Well. I’m a geek.
So, now you know the complete extent of my geekdom – New Testament Greek and Miss Manners!
